Men, this one is for you. As a life coach for men, the most common thing I see is this. Most of us grew up in a world where emotions weren’t really accepted. We were never taught how to feel them, let alone how to process them, so we learned to push them down and get on with it.
For men it can be even harder. Somewhere along the way, feeling an emotion got labelled as weak. Don’t feel it. Don’t show it. Toughen up.
But an emotion doesn’t disappear when you suppress it. Emotions are energy, and that energy gets stored in the body. It drives how we behave, it surfaces in our relationships as triggers, and over time it can even show up as pain and tension we can’t explain. There is a growing body of work, including Bessel van der Kolk’s The Body Keeps the Score, exploring how the body holds what we don’t process.
What a life coach for men actually does
The work isn’t about dredging up the past for its own sake. It’s about learning to turn towards what you feel, name it, and move through it, so the energy that has been stuck can finally move. That’s where things start to shift. In how you feel, how you show up, and how you relate to the people you love.
It doesn’t make you weak. It takes real courage.
A client’s story
One of my clients, Chris, put it better than I could.
“I highly recommend Anna, since my first meeting with Anna I have been able to uncover and address a lot of suppressed feelings and emotions, enabling me to finally move forward with my life in a positive way.” — Chris
Watching a man give himself permission to feel what he had carried for so long, and come out the other side lighter, is one of the greatest privileges of my work as a life coach for men.
If you’ve been holding something down for a long time, you’re not weak. You’re human. And you don’t have to do it alone. If you’re ready to begin, I’d love to work with you one to one.
And while these words are for the men, I coach women too. Whoever you are, if something here landed, you’re welcome.
With care, Anna
