Mind Body Spirit: “I am a Yogi”

Sometimes you have to flip your perspective.

Two years ago I knew I needed something different, something that would bring my mind body spirit back into the same place. I had always moved through running and cycling, but I was craving something that would slow me down and get me inside my body, rather than push it harder. I was drawn to yoga.

I walked into my local studio and found something I did not expect. Not just the movement, but a real sense of community. I work from home, so having a space that is mine, with people, outside of work, has meant more than I can say.

Two years on, that is 300 classes. Three times a week, most weeks. The days I felt like it, and the days I really did not.

Yoga brings my mind body spirit together

It has become one of my non-negotiables, part of how I care for my health. And the benefits run so much deeper than stretching. The breathwork, the prana, the way it supports the body right down to digestion and the organs. It grounds me, gets me back into my body, and brings me into the present moment. I always feel better afterwards.

Mind, body and spirit, all in the one room.

Showing up until it becomes who you are

It reminds me of an idea from the book Atomic Habits. You do not become something by setting a goal. You become it by showing up, over and over, until it is simply who you are.

It is the same quiet lesson at the heart of my work. Inside Oasis, my online community for women, so much of what we practise comes back to this: showing up for yourself, again and again, until it becomes who you are.

I do not do yoga anymore. I am a yogi. And it made me smile to realise I can finally say that.

What is one thing you keep showing up for? I would love to know.
