Learning to Slow Down: Choosing Rest as I Enter the New Year
When I look at this photo of myself lying on the beach, I can see how tired I was. Not just physically, but a deeper tired — the kind that builds when we keep doing without truly stopping.
Rest is something I’ve genuinely struggled with in the past. Like many people, I’ve found comfort in routine, structure, and staying busy. Even when my body was asking me to slow down, I often stayed in motion, pushing through and overriding the signs.
Our bodies speak to us long before burnout arrives. The messages are subtle at first — low energy, heaviness, a quiet need for space. Yet so often, we ignore these signals and keep going, believing we’ll rest later.
These holidays, I chose to listen.
I let go of needing a strict routine around food, exercise, or the day ahead. I enjoyed different foods, a few drinks, and more spontaneity. Instead of planning each day, I allowed it to unfold naturally, trusting what I felt like doing in the moment.
I spent time sitting on the beach, journaling and reflecting on 2025 — not from a place of pressure or goal-setting, but from curiosity. I asked myself how I want to enter the new year energetically. How do I want to feel? What values or qualities do I want to focus on? How do I want to show up in the world?
This time reminded me that rest isn’t about switching off completely. It’s about softening control, creating space to reconnect, and trusting what your body and heart need. It reinforced the importance of self-care for women as something to practice consistently, not just when we’re exhausted.
Self-care for women
This intention is also at the heart of my M.O.V.E program, which begins on 11 February. M.O.V.E is about creating space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, move your body intentionally, reflect, and build supportive habits that align with how you want to live — not how busy life tells you to be.
As I move into the year ahead, I’m choosing to honour self-care for women as a way of living — with greater awareness, connection, and compassion.
As you step into the new year, how do you want to care for yourself, and what would it feel like to move forward more connected to your body and inner world?
If this reflection resonates, M.O.V.E offers a supportive space for women to slow down, reconnect, and prioritise self-care in a sustainable way. Beginning 11 February, M.O.V.E blends gentle movement, guided reflection, journaling, and meaningful connection to help you enter the year with greater awareness, clarity, and intention — without pressure or overwhelm.
